RMA Fitness Challenge: Sign up for a race.
Let's face it-we all want to be active, eat better, be in good physical shape, but getting out the door and getting after it is easier said than done. We have found a great way to stay motivated to stick with your fitness goals………..SIGN UP FOR A RACE!
How is this going to help me you may ask?
First, if your goal involves something that requires an entry fee or registration, signing that check and choosing your T-shirt size is like signing a written agreement to follow through. Be sure to sign up early! When training gets tough you can tell yourself, “I’ve already paid for this – I’ve got to be ready!”
Second, it’s going to motivate you to evaluate where you are physically. You need a starting point. It will also motivate you to evaluate your diet. Both of these concepts are important to improve your fitness. You will be surprised at what you can accomplish when you try.
Third, it motivates you to set up a healthy eating and exercise plan. Once you know where you are at, you can come up with a plan to get to where you need to be for race day.
Forth, having a set time and date for the race gives you a timeline to work off of. You will be motivated to work out and get your body in the shape it needs to be to complete the event.
Signing up for races throughout the year, completing and pushing yourself will get you in much better shape to reach your goals and you will be ready for the fall. You will be happy with your body’s ability to go faster, longer, and higher than before. So do it! If you don’t you’ll have to settle for where you are at.
Tips: Don’t go too far or too fast too soon. This often results in injury and the loss of motivation to train. Start off training at a lower intensity and at shorter distances, and then gradually increase mileage and intensity as time goes along. Search the internet for training programs specific to the event you signed up for. – This will help get you on a schedule!
Good luck and we’ll see you on top!
